357 mag vs 45 colt for self defense and big game hunting?

This is for my next handgun purchase. Revolver ( single or double action) at least 4in barrel. Primary use self defense, secondary use big game hunting. In the past I've had a S&W 327 NG in 357mag, the barrel was too short (2.5in) and the frame too light (scandium aluminum alloy) too much recoil and inaccurate. I've shot 45colt out of 3 different judge models (horrible guns) and a Ruger Vaquero bisley 5 1/2 in barrel, and always liked the the 45colt
