Do all metals have ferrous in them, enabling them to form rust when exposed to oxygen. If that's the case, how?

do you get ferrous out of a metal example Nickle (Ni) if there is no Fe (ferrous) in it. It's as if a metal can become radioactive just by gaining or losing an electron - which in a way does sound like oxidation/reduction occurence.
